International symposium is organized by International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP), formed by Swiss Society of Paediatrics (SSP) which is an organization of more than 2500 paediatricians dedicated to the physical, mental and social health for all the infants, children and adolescents in Switzerland. The SSP is multilingual, represents both hospital and office paediatricians and is home to all paediatric subspecialty societies. They organize symposium at the interval of every two years.

The first symposium was held in 1988 in Seattle, Canada and in continuation, they have successfully organized XVIII symposiums till 2017. XIX International symposium on paediatrics pain will be held in Basel, Switzerland from June 16 to June 20, 2019, which aims at enriching inter professional basics and applied science on paediatric pain management by scientists, clinicians and educators from all over the world. The main objectives of the symposium XIX will be: To promote education about pain in children, to share relevant information about children?s pain control, to advance our ability to alleviate children?s pain from an inter disciplinary perspective, to encourage research particularly multicenter studies, and slides focus on unique problems of paediatrics including newborns.
